Fringe Furniture is an annual ideas showcase that has grown over its history to claim a critical position in Melbourne’s design landscape. The breadth of talent and skill that Fringe Furniture attracts can genuinely be considered a cultural barometer for the city’s vibrant and cutting-edge artistic community.

Fringe Furniture is an open-access event, meaning that any registered artist can exhibit work. It has been a keynote event in Melbourne Fringe for the past 29 years and offers artists and audiences a unique, free way to engage with the annual Festival.

As it approaches its third decade, Fringe Furniture has a rich history in the Melbourne Fringe and wider design community. This website is a document and archive of that history.

There is an array of information on this site, but there are many more elements that make up Fringe Furniture. If you have any images, materials or memories of Fringe Furniture that you would like to contribute please contact Melbourne Fringe on and be sure to include your contact details.
